Regularity in Greece will never be the same again after the magic days of December. The events that followed the murder of 15 year-old Alexis by the State are for all of us a legacy of freedom and dignity. A whole generation has been able to understand in practice what it means to leave the apathy of the couch, go out in the streets and shape the social imaginary and history itself. The revolt put at the forefront the values of self-management and direct democracy and the power of the collective individual. Last December is now engraved into history as the December 2008 revolt where the person has stepped forward to determine herself as a political creature and has reclaimed space in the public sphere.

With the flame of the December 2008 revolt warming our desire to crush the traditional and shutter the existing condition with our words and acts, the antiauthoritarian newspaper BABYLONIA is organizing BFEST, an international, antiauthoritarian Festival on May 27-31 at the Athens School of Fine Arts. BABYLONIA is issued since 2003 on the basis of procedures of direct democracy and anti-hierarchy and with the aim to meet the needs of Greek society for unrestrained news feed. It gained international characteristics in July 2008, by meeting the most radical voice of America, as articulated by the network ZNET. As a result of the cooperation mentioned above, radical intellectuals and activists of the ZNET network, such as Michael Albert, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky and Chris Spanos, come to share their thoughts and inflammatory suggestions with us in the Athens Festival. At the heart of the B-FEST programme lies first and foremost the political element, expressed through sessions of open political dialogue and through interactive workshops. These political events are further enlightened with the colour and sound from the multiple cultural activities, taking place in parallel during the days of the Festival.
